I cannot be the only one who has noticed this. I'm not mad or anything, and this actually makes me laugh, but in Fanfictions he seems like a cold-hearted bastard who gives no shit for anything but himself. In the movie he seemed desperate for love and attention. Like he actually wanted people to get a wake up call and see him there. Kind of like a mistreated pet who is looking for a home.

there, there... and actually he wanted to kill Jamie... not Jack... but that aside. I understand. Ultimately, Pitch is not a villain because he chooses to be... it is simply that he goes about getting what he wants in the wrong way because no one has bothered to show him differently since his fall... no one has tried to help.
